I was hoping to put iTunes on an older computer to simply work as a
podcatcher.
However, I am afraid the latest version would be too much for the old
computer.
I have a friend that has all of the older versions of iTunes archived.
(from version 4.1 to 8.)

Download Media Player Classic, and look for the Codec pack to suit your OS.
Don't ever use Windows Media Player again, problem solved!

Get Video Lan Player, BS Player, Divx Player, Media Classic Player. Easy to
find them using search engines. To play movie files on a DVD player, the
best one is a Philips.

sounds like whatever you were using is either a demo or under license,
so you would have to pay for it, or renew it or whatever, to get it
working again.
