I installed both programs and did both scans including the restarts, it took
a while and found a few things but did not solve the previously stated
problems - my internet explorer being redirected to harmful websites and
blocked from downloading the updates that are supposed to fix the problem.
Everything is still the same.

Hello,
Everytime I try to install the below 5 updates I get an error code 646
message. I've tried to install them for weeks now, I'm still getting the
error message
-Security update for microsoft office excel 2007 (KB978382)
-Security update for microsoft power point 2007 (KB957789)
-Security update for the 2007 microsoft office system (KB969559)

Hi Ottmar,
I've been using Firefox so had not been visiting update via IE8 as it likes
one to do.
Going in via IE8 and letting it find all the updates that way it seems to
have worked and I have a whole lot more log files in the windows directory
than I did before, including the one that had been playing hard to get!

I only have one 'Security' program running besides the normal Window
Security Center:
Trend Micro PC-Cillin Internet Security (3 Versions listed)
Program Verson: 14.70.1014
Engine Version: 8.911.1001
Pattern Version: 6.931.00
Does that help? Do I need to turn this off?

Adendum:
The full OS description should read:
1)OS W2Kpro SP4 amd W2KSVR SP4 with all MS-Updates.
As non of the W2K OS show the KB977724 update in ARP and also do not create an Uninstall DIR in the WinDIR use the WindowsUpdate.log in that DIR or Belarc to check if it was installed.
