red comets again
I made ruby red comets with the expected result of them falling back to earth still burning. Very beautiful though. My question is, what is a formula used in marine flare pistols. Those burn up in the air, are they not a small comet? Can that be scaled up to a two inch comet? I did find one red comet recipe here, but pretty exotic (to... more »

How well does Potassium Benzoate store?
I bought a few pounds of potassium benzoate within the last year and just went to make some whistle mix. It has been stored in a sealed plastic container that is taped closed and stored in a sealed magazine indoors. It was advertised as a fine powder and I believe it also said it was air milled. When I opened it up it was a bunch of small flakes/... more »

Rubidium in fireworks?
Are rubidium compounds ever actually used in fireworks? What flame colour do rubidium compounds give? Done lots of Googling, and came up with contradictory answers. I know they have been tried experimentally, if anyone has the Journal of Pyrotechnics - Issue 15, can they tell me what it says on this subject?... more »

fireballs
I am kind going backwards in my pyro endevours due to time/money. But still having fun. I made a couple of "hollywood fireballs" this past week and have a question. I have done the bp in a pipe full of gasoline, pretty cool and quiet. So I've been experimenting with flash-initiated fireballs which when they work are awesome. The low... more »

Where to get guidance sticks?
Hello, I would like some suggestions on where to look for sticks to use for the tails on 3/4" x 7 1/2" rockets. The smaller rockets were easy, I use bamboo skewers (cheap), or hobby balsa wood (expensive but work well). But now that I'm starting to dabble in this larger size, I am at a loss for ideas.... more »

best blue stars without NH4ClO4
Hi guys, I´m searching a good formula for blue stars without ammonium perchlorate, because here in germany there is no option to get NH4CLO4 because of the law. I got several chemicals for blue stars like KClO4, parlon, pvc, CuO, CuCO3 and I know that you can get the deepest blues only with ammonioum perchlorate, but what do you think is the best blue star... more »

Red lighter flame.
Not much to tell, the flame impinges on a perforated metal plate. There is almost no visible flame, bit of blue with a central core of strontium red. Casady
